How to Update Luma Custom Firmware to the Latest Version

It's possible you've recently Powered on your Nintendo 3DS Console & were greeted with this message:


If such is the case, you might be a bit freaked out, wondering if Nintendo's Ninjas finally got to your 3DS.

Can we fix it?
  • Simply Update Luma Custom Firmware to work with Firmware Update 11.8.0
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------


How to get Started:

  • Download the Latest Version of Luma 3DS here: Luma3DSv9.1.7z
  • Right Click "Luma3DSv9.1.7" & Extract to Here w/ 7zip

You should now have an Extracted "boot.firm"

  • Insert your 3DS SD Card into your PC
  • Drag & Drop the new "boot.firm" into the Root of your SD Card

When it asks to Replace the File already there, Click Replace/Yes



  • Safely Eject your SD Card
  • Insert SD back into the 3DS
  • Power on your Device
This will Automatically Open: "Luma3DSv9.1 Configuration Menu"



  • You can Enable game Patching by pressing A 
(do this if you use LayeredFS or Twilight/DSiMenu++ or any other Homebrew that utilize it)
If you don't need game patching or after you've Enabled it:
  •   Press The Start Button to move past this Menu & boot your System 

Luma 3DS v9.1 Update Complete!

Now that Luma CFW is running again, you might want to update BootNTRSelector to work with 11.8.0
